Cavalier Velvet: the ultimate winter luxury upgrade

Cavalier Velvet: the ultimate winter luxury upgrade

Velvet boasts an exclusive history. Once considered to be one of the most luxurious fabrics imaginable, this rich fabric remains as opulent today as it was when first introduced to the world. Said to have originated in the East, with some silk velvet having been discovered in China, velvet is also related to European nobility, both in clothing and interiors. Velvet cloaks and shawls were famously worn by the aristocracy, while in interiors the wealthy indulged in it for luxury drapes and furnishings.

Our most recent Maverick collection has additional new colourways to the classic Cavalier velvet. Evoking grandeur in modern interiors, velvet is the ultimate luxe fabric for winter. Sumptuous and soft, warm and weighty, velvet protects against drafts and brings chic cosiness to a room. Having passed the Martindale test with high counts of 35,000+, they make suitable options for upholstery and decorative furnishing pieces. This is why, with its short pile and soft metallic sheen, Cavalier is a medium weight choice for upholstery, curtains and bespoke accessories.  In rich shades including emerald green, deep blue, subtle gold and vibrant yellow, Cavalier is an excellent option for winter interior upgrades.

An alternative to the sheen of Cavalier, is our beautiful Vienna fabric, inspired by the Grand Opera House in Vienna. This exquisitely understated cotton velvet has an extremely long pile and matte surface, making it perfect for heavy curtaining and upholstery. The matte appearance gives this classic a quiet modernity. Finally, our smart Eskimo velvet with its soft touch and lavish texture, complements our extensive range of linens.
